About The Contrarian Concert Hall and Theater
Our Mission And History
At the Contrarian Concert Hall and Theater, our mission is to provide top-quality performances and events that inspire, entertain, and challenge our audience. We strive to be a hub of creativity and community engagement.
Our venue, located at 125 East Main Street Festus Mo, originally opened its doors in 1936 as The Miller Theater. The first show, "After The Thin Man", was one of the year's top movies. More than 100 representatives from various film companies visited Festus for the opening. Later, in 1939, the showing of "Jesse James" would draw over 8,000 people to the theater in just one week.
In the early 1970's the theater was sold and renamed the La Jade Cinema. The cinema was in operation until 1995. In the years following, the theater changed hands a few times but had remained mostly idle.
In late 2023, the building was purchased by Steve Tetrault, owner of both Petit Paree and Taytro's Bar & Bistro, and Patrick Thomson from Season 6 of "The Voice", owner of Lit Up Creations and Operations Manager of Taytro's Bar & Bistro. In purchasing the theater both Steve and Patrick set out to bring something new and exciting to historic Festus Main Street. The theater was renamed The Contrarian Concert Hall & Theater.
While many changes have been made, renovations will continue as we grow. We hope to continue to elevate the experience for all of our patrons and artists and look forward to bringing a new level of performing arts to Festus Main Street.

Located on historic Festus Main Street, Contrarian Concert Hall and Theater is easily accessible via public transportation or by car. Our prime location allows us to connect with the community and attract visitors from all over.
